READING – At its last meeting, the Reading School Committee decided to hold its next meeting in Boston. According to committee chair Tom Wise, who raised the matter, the regular school board meeting would be held at an as-yet-undetermined location in Dorchester for the convenience of METCO students and parents. He added that there would be pizza available before the meeting, but RCTV would not be able to broadcast the meeting live, but a recorded version of the meeting would be available a few days after the event.
Wise said the most important item on the agenda would be an update from METCO. In December, the school board voted to add 40 more METCO students in September 2022, bringing the new METCO enrollment count to just over 100 students at Reading.
Since that May 9 meeting, the venue for the May 26 meeting has been announced. It will be held at Brooke Academy Charter School, 200 American Legion Highway in Boston. In making the announcement, the Superintendent of Schools said in part: ‘Given that we have RPS families who live in both Reading and Boston, we felt it was important to hold a school committee meeting this year in Boston. We will be hosting a pizza dinner at 6:15 p.m. for all of our students and families who can attend, and then we will start the school committee meeting at 7 p.m.
The announcement went on to say, “The meeting will include an update from METCO as well as updates from our student-run groups. The meeting will also bring together many of our District Leaders and Building Managers and is open to all of our Boston and Reading families. We hope you can all join us.
